Ok so I’m not sure why anyone is getting upset over the burning of the Koran on a U.S. Army base. They were burned in a garbage pit which was wrong. Just to avoid the uprising those books should have been disposed of in a more professional and hidden manner. The reason the protests were so bad was because they were burned on the base, and some locals who work on the base saw this and spread the word. Keep in mind while reading this that I do acknowledge that the Korans should have been disposed of in a different and more respectful manner. Saying that, these books should have been disposed of. They were in a library on Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, and the library was for detainees. For people who were detained because of a suspicion of being insurgents. The books in question, yes there were Korans, but not all the books were Korans, had extremist writings and propaganda written inside of them by the detainees. These were books that were disposed of for a different reason than many think. It was not just a bunch of hick christian soldiers burning books because they hate Muslims. They were ordered to be burned by the commander on that base because they saw a threat in them and wanted to eliminate that threat. I also think people have this concept that people would be in an outrage if people burned bibles. This is completely wrong, 59% of Americans claim to be christians, so it is the dominant religion, but how many of those people are actually practicing? I know I would put christian as my religion, but that doesn’t mean I would get pissed or upset if bibles were burnt. I think if it happened then no one would care, or even notice. As a matter of fact, in 2009, soldiers burned bibles on a base in Afghanistan, bet you didn’t know that did you? Bibles were burned to make sure that there was no religious propaganda going into the field, so no yahoo would be trying to convert locals. That’s right, WE’RE NOT EVEN TRYING TO STOP THE MUSLIM RELIGION!!! Soldiers in Afghanistan are trying to stop the spread of extremism, not the Muslim faith in general. So right now we have people outraged over the burning of the Koran for legitimate reasons, and the burning of the bible is totally acceptable with legitimate reasons. So to the people that are saying that it should be all about equality, and that we would be outraged if it happened to christianity, need to go get some more information, because people freak out all over the world if we burn the Koran, and not if we burn the bible. Can you see how that is not equal? I am not against burning those bibles, I think they made a wise choice that truly affected no one, but I am just saying that people shouldn’t get so pissed off about us burning the Koran because we had a legitimate reason to do it. I think that anyone who looks at this in a closed view and says that it was because religion that we burned these, because we hate Muslims, is very wrong and simple minded. There were a lot of factors going into the choice to dispose of those books. Just like there was with the bibles, do I think it could have been done better yes, but for anyone to condemn the people burned them is wrong. I also think that if you come in saying that America is a christian country and that’s why we shouldn’t burn bibles or something like that, you’re an idiot. One of our founding ideals is freedom of religion, you should be able to practice whatever you want, as long as it does not reach extremism, and for the record, christian extremists are just as bad if not worse than Muslim extremists. Westborough baptist church shows everything that is wrong with christianity. There is good and bad in every religion, and the burning of these books was not to put down all Muslims, it was done in an attempt to stop the spread of extremism. This was not a religious protest or demonstration, it was simply a security issue. That is all, sorry for ranting
